A machine builder comes with an software to rotate tooling around an Aerospace component and wish to use a curved rack and pinion drive to achieve this. To keep up accurate positioning, there will be two axis drives to rotate the axis and remove backlash using electric preloading.

The flanged pinion offered a compact design to reduce the amount of torque needed at the reducer output. The reducer provided a rigid support of the flanged pinion and allowed for a large reduction ratio to find the motor speed up as high as feasible.
