A worm gear system includes a worm and worm wheel. The worm resembles a screw, which fulfills with a worm wheel, as demonstrated in the photo. When rotational power is worm and wheel steering gear applied to the worm, it rotates against the wheel and 
transfers power to the worm wheel. The system is designed so that the worm can certainly turn the gear, however the gear cannot switch the worm. In a few styles, the friction between the gear and worm holds the worm in place. This feature can be quite useful in a few applications.
